Aston Villa are now looking to sign Oxford United goalkeeper Jack Stevens having been snubbed by new Fulham stopper Paulo Gazzaniga.
That’s according to The Sun (25/07, p62), who claim that Villa made a move for Gazzaniga having seen his Tottenham contract come to an end this summer.
The Argentinian wanted to stay in London though, meaning he rejected a Premier League move in favour of playing in the Championship.
Gazzaniga would have only been second choice behind compatriot Emiliano Martinez at Villa, so maybe he also feels that he will play more regularly at Fulham.
That leaves Villa still searching for another goalkeeper, and it’s suggested that Oxford ace Stevens is now on their wish list.
The 23-year-old has come up through the Oxford ranks, and after three loan spells in non-league, finally became Oxford’s first-choice goalkeeper last season.

Stevens has potential for the future, but hasn’t played above League One so far in his career, meaning he is very different to the likes of Gazzaniga or Tom Heaton.
Ex-Fulham stopper Marcus Bettinelli is also, somewhat ironically, in the frame for a move to Villa Park according to the Daily Mail, so Dean Smith and co have plenty to think about now.
