Tottenham’s latest signing, Josh Keeley, is reported to have had trials with Aston Villa and Everton.
It was reported by Football London this morning that Spurs had signed the 19-year-old Irish goalkeeper from St Patrick’s Athletic in Dublin.
Alasdair Gold, who exclusively covers Tottenham for that publication, claimed that Keeley had previously trials with Aston Villa, Everton and Leicester City to name a few.
But in the end it was the Lilywhites who ‘convinced’ the player to follow compatriot Troy Parrott to Hotspur Way.
This tallies with what The Meath Chronicle claimed last year, that the young stopper had not one, but two trials at Everton and the Villans.
This transfer makes sense for Tottenham.
As Gold reported, a handful of youth goalkeepers have left North London this summer – as well as loanee Pieruigi Gollini.
Keeley will be nowhere near Antonio Conte’s senior squad, particularly with Fraser Forster having been signed already this summer.
But he most likely will get opportunities to impress the Italian manager behind the scenes, with Conte regularly including younger players in his senior training sessions this past season.
This is the second Aston Villa-linked player who Tottenham have signed ahead of Steven Gerrard’s side, who lodged an offer for Yves Bissouma this week but the Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder looks set to join Conte’s outfit this summer for £25 million [The Athletic].
