One name linked this week is Bristol City’s Adam Webster, as The Sun claim that Villa are eyeing up a £12million move for the centre back.
Webster, 24, has been on the books of Portsmouth and Ipswich Town, but has really kicked on with Bristol City, becoming one of the Championship’s best defenders.
The Robins now face a fight to keep him with Villa seemingly interested, and boss Smith will know all about the 6ft 3in centre back after a number of years in the Championship.
Bristol City fans rave about Webster, but that hasn’t stopped Villa fans from being a little worried about a potential move to bring him to Villa Park.
Villa fans are worried that Championship players are being targeted, feeling that more Premier League quality is needed – or they’ll risk being relegated straight back to the Championship.
Some do think Webster would be a great signing, but there’s a growing concern about Villa’s transfer plans having been linked with a number of Championship players, and having already signed Jota.
