Tyrone Mings has posted on his Instagram story a small clip of his injured Aston Villa teammate Wesley training in the gym, with the video accompanied by the words ‘Looking good brother – back soon’.

The 23-year-old has not played for Villa since New Year’s Day when he injured his knee ligaments against Burnley.

But it seems as though his return could be closer than most think.

Either way, it will be a much-needed boost for Dean Smith in the final third and that old football cliché in that he will feel like a new signing.

When Wesley was injured at Turf Moor last season, only Jonathan Kodjia and Keinan Davis were the back-up strikers – the former ended up leaving weeks later and was replaced by Mbwana Samatta in the January transfer window.

Fast forward to today and Samatta has since been sold and the club have smashed the transfer fee they paid for Wesley by bringing Ollie Watkins to the club.

He has scored four goals in the Premier League and Villa fans will be keen for them to link up in the final third.

But given the serious nature of Wesley’s injury, even if he’s back on the field by the end of the year, it’s going to take some months, and potentially even more, for him to get that sharpness and bite back into this game.
