Aston Villa have their work cut-out if they are to challenge for the play-off spots the season.
During an exclusive interview with the Express & Star, Villa boss Steve Bruce seemed to hint that his side are too far behind to make the play-offs this season, unless they string together a ‘huge’ run of victories.
The Villans were a club in crisis when Bruce arrived in October 2016, and he made an immediate impact, guiding his side on a fairly lengthy unbeaten run.

But the honeymoon period is now most certainly over, as Bruce’s men sit in 14th position in the Championship table, a full 13 points adrift of sixth placed Sheffield Wednesday.
And Bruce explained how it might be too little too late, as far as their promotion hopes for this season are concerned, when speaking to the Express & Star:

“We will never ever give up. We can’t. But we’ve got to be realistic. We’ve got to put something of a huge run together. It’s up to me now to try and get a bit of stability into the team. We’ve made something like 40 changes in two transfer windows, it’s huge. So we’ve got the makings of a very decent team I think.”

One thing is for sure, however, is that Bruce’s men need to get back to winning ways sooner rather than later, if they are to have any chance whatsoever in the race for promotion.
