Aston Villa are maybe a centre forward short right now.

Aston Villa have lost their first two games back in the Premier League after being beaten 2-1 at home by Bournemouth on Saturday.

Villa valiantly lost at Tottenham on the opening day of the season, but were poor in the first half against Bournemouth, falling 2-0 down to a Josh King penalty and a long-range Harry Wilson strike.

Douglas Luiz did bring them back into the game with a stunning goal, but Villa just didn’t have the cutting edge in the final third to find the equaliser.

There are already concerns about Wesley’s performances, as whilst the Brazilian is a decent focal point, he doesn’t look to have the clinical streak that Villa need.

Dean Smith missed out on Neal Maupay this summer, and with fans concerned about leaving so much on Wesley’s shoulders, they’re now suggesting a free agent signing.

Earlier this month, the Daily Mail noted that Villa were keen on Daniel Sturridge, but he was looking to wait until after the English deadline to decide his future.

The 29-year-old – formerly in the Aston Villa youth setup – is a free agent having left Liverpool, and some Villa fans took to Twitter after Saturday’s game to suggest that he’s the ideal veteran striker to take some pressure off Wesley.

Sadly, the fans who want a move for Sturridge may be left disappointed, as the Daily Mail carry photos of him arriving in Turkey to sign for Trabzonspor, meaning that barring a late hitch, he will be playing in claret and blue next season – but it won’t be the Villa shirt on his back.
