Aston Villa fans have called for Birkir Bjarnason to retain his place in Steve Bruce’s starting line-up for the rest of the season.

Bruce admitted in the week that Bjarnason was ready to rip his head off, after he wasn’t picked to play in a 0-0 draw with Hull City.

However, the Icelandic international was restored to Villa’s starting line-up for their match against Reading in midweek, and he proved his worth.

Bjarnason curled in a brilliant goal, as the claret and blues picked up a 3-0 victory.

After the contest, Bjarnason claimed to the Birmingham Mail that he almost left Villa in January, due to his lack of game time.

“I wanted to leave. I wanted to play. I needed to play because it’s a World Cup year,” he said.

“When I was not playing I wanted to leave.”

And after reading the comments, Villa fans do not want Bruce to risk leaving Bjarnason out any more.

Villa are still in with a slight chance of claiming an automatic promotion spot, although they are more likely to have to settle for a play off place.

The claret and blues are next in action at the weekend when they take on Norwich City.
