Mings featured as Dean Smith’s Villans beat the Baggies in their Championship playoff semi-final first leg at Villa Park.

It’s advantage Aston Villa in their Championship playoff semi-final against West Bromwich Albion as they came from behind to run out 2-1 winners over James Shan’s side in Saturday’s first leg at Villa Park.
The hosts got off to a poor start, falling behind in the 16th minute when Glenn Whelan made a hash of a pass at the back, which allowed Baggies top scorer Dwight Gayle to claim the ball, run at goal and plant the ball home past Jed Steer.
To their credit, the Villans came back strongly and dominated much of the game thereafter, eventually equalising in the 75th minute when substitute Conor Hourihane hammered an effort home from the edge of the area.
Jack Grealish was then tripped over in the box by Kieran Gibbs, allowing Tammy Abraham to slot in the winner from the penalty spot on 79 minutes to give Dean Smith’s side the advantage going to The Hawthorns on Tuesday night.
Defender Tyrone Mings admittedly had one of his more difficult games against the impressive Gayle – until the Baggies man was sent off anyway – but he nonetheless finished on the winning side.
