The Villa Park summer signing split opinion for his display as Dean Smith’s side claimed a narrow win.

A number of Aston Villa fans have been giving their thoughts on Twitter about the team’s performance against Brighton on Saturday and one player who split opinion was Wesley Moraes.
The Villa Park £22.5million (Transfermarkt) summer signing took a while to find his feet at B6 but then delivered a barnstorming display against Norwich last time out, scoring two goals – could have been three but for a saved penalty – and claiming an assist in the 5-1 win.
Wesley wasn’t quite as effective this weekend, however, failing to get the better of Brighton’s centre-back pairing of Adam Webster and Lewis Dunk.
In addition, he was adjudged to have fouled opposition goalkeeper Mat Ryan prior to Conor Hourihane firing into the back of the net, a goal which VAR disallowed and a decision many Villa fans were left disputing.
Here is some of the claret and blue fanbase’s reaction to Wesley’s display:
Things got off to a poor start for Dean Smith’s side as Brighton took the lead through Webster, but both sides were level come the interval – and the visitors were down to ten men after Aaron Mooy was sent off – as Jack Grealish bundled the ball home from point-blank range on the stroke of half time.
It looked as though the hosts would have to make do with a share of the spoils but, deep into injury time, Matt Targett scored a dramatic winner to send Villa Park into raptures and edge them up to 11th in the Premier League.
