Aston Villa have recorded their fifth Championship win in a row after beating Blackburn Rovers 2-1 in Saturday’s league encounter at Villa Park.

The hosts were bright from the off and broke the deadlock after just eight minutes as John McGinn played a neat ball to Anwar El Ghazi, who in turn put it into the path of Tammy Abraham for a simple tap-in and a 22nd of the season.

Villa then doubled their lead just after the hour thanks to fan favourite Tyrone Mings, with McGinn once again involved as his pinpoint cross was met by the on-loan Bournemouth defender to head home his second goal at the Holte End.

Although Blackburn made for a nervy finish due to Amari’i Bell, who dispatched a parried free kick on the rebound in the 74th minute, Dean Smith’s side saw out the game to move up to fifth in the table on 60 points.

At full time, a number of Villa fans keeping tabs on proceedings on Twitter gave their thoughts on the game, and one player in particular was mentioned a fair bit, not for the first time this season, and with good reason:

Up next for Villa in the Championship is Sheffield Wednesday away next Saturday.
