Dean Smith’s Aston Villa overcame their West Midlands opponents at Villa Park to seal EFL Cup progress.

A number of Aston Villa fans have been commenting on Twitter about their side’s League Cup victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Villa Park last night and despite most of Dean Smith’s charges doing well, there was also criticism of one player.
Neil Taylor was handed a start at Villa Park and made numerous runs up the left flank but his deliveries were not particularly fruitful, while a botched attempt at a volleyed pass back led to Patrick Cutrone being sent through one on one, Jed Steer bailing him out.
The left-back began the Premier League season by starting the first six league games, but against Burnley he was utilised as a substitute while the following three games saw him remain on the bench (Transfermarkt).
During and after the win over Wolves, Taylor’s display yielded a fair bit of reaction on social media, most of it negative, as can be read below:
Anwar El Ghazi’s close-range shot got the better of John Ruddy to put Villa ahead just before the half-hour mark before Cutrone tapped in Taylor Perry’s pass to equalise on 54 minutes.
Ahmed Elmohamady’s flick from a Henri Lansbury free kick not long after saw the hosts eventually advance at the expense of their fellow West Midlanders.
