The Villa midfielder had a day to forget at the office as Dean Smith’s side played out a 0-0 draw at Villa Park.

A number of Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Jota’s performance in Monday night’s Premier League stalemate against West Ham United at Villa Park.
The £4million summer signing (Transfermarkt) from Second City rivals Birmingham City had a fairly quiet game by his standards against the Hammers and was subbed off on 66 minutes, with Dean Smith putting Ahmed Elmohamady in the Spaniard’s place.
The Birmingham Mail’s post-match ratings gave Jota 5 out of 10, deeming him “not up to the standards” he achieved in the game against Everton and “must be better” after he “didn’t affect the game in any way.”
Here is what some Aston Villa fans on social media made of Jota’s display on the night:
As noted on BBC Sport, only in 1997-98 did Aston Villa accrue fewer points after the opening five games of a Premier League campaign (3) than they have managed this season (4), but the point against the ten men of West Ham nonetheless edges them out of the bottom three.
Up next for Villa is Sunday’s Premier League trip to Arsenal, who are currently seventh in the table.
