The Villa captain helped Dean Smith’s charges up the Championship table and towards playoff glory to bring Premier League football back to Villa Park.

A number of Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Jack Grealish’s honest and heartfelt comments regarding how he perhaps took the club’s last stint in the Premier League for granted and how he has “unfinished” business in the top flight (official club website).

The 23-year-old made his debut for his boyhood club in May 2014, following a loan at then League One side Notts County, but suffered the disappointment of being relegated from the Premier League in 2016 following a difficult season.

Fast-forward three rollercoaster years in the Championship and Grealish is now club captain at a side which has returned to the top flight following a superb late-season surge into the top six before West Bromwich Albion and Derby County were overcome in the playoffs.

Speaking to the Villa website, the attacker said: “The day we got relegated three years ago was also the day I knew what I wanted to do – get Aston Villa back to the Premier League. Looking back now at when I was 19 or 20, I maybe took it for granted and didn’t realise how lucky I was to be playing for the club in the top flight.

“Now, we’re back and I need to grab this chance with both hands. I want to help push this club as high as possible. To do that, I need goals, assists and performances. I want to get into the England team… I’ve got unfinished business with the Premier League now.”

In an entire team of fan favourites, Grealish is the most loved of all amongst the Villa fanbase and his comments were superbly received by the Claret and Blue faithful on the social media platform:

An exciting proposition awaits Villa in the first Premier League matchday of 2019-20 as Dean Smith’s charges take on Champions League finalists Tottenham Hotspur – who were previously linked with Grealish – away at their brand new stadium in the opening fixture.
