The Villans, who beat Crewe in round two, face a round trip of over 350 miles in midweek to head to the Amex Stadium.

A number of Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to give their thoughts on the Carabao Cup third round draw, which has given Dean Smith’s side a trip to fellow Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion.

Villa reached the third round courtesy of their impressive 6-1 win at Crewe Alexandra on Tuesday night as Ezri Konsa, Conor Hourihane, Keinan Davis, Frederic Guilbert and Jack Grealish all got on the scoresheet to get the better of the Railwaymen.

Brighton, meanwhile, beat Bristol Rovers 2-1 on Tuesday night to guarantee their passage into the third round, and with the Seagulls drawn at home, Villa will be making the 350-plus mile round trip to the south coast for the game.

Reaction from the Villa fanbase was mixed, with some fans not enthused at the prospect of a fairly long trip on a weekday, while others saw it as a relatively kind draw and, for the sake of a cup run, a fairly decent opponent.

Here is what some claret and blue fans wrote on social media:
