Aston Villa fans on Twitter think their reported deal involving Matt Targett could help Southampton fund a deal for Birmingham City striker Che Adams.

The Southern Daily Echo have claimed that the Saints have accepted a £16 million bid from Villa for their highly-rated left-back Targett.

Added with that, Sky Sports are reporting that Birmingham’s hitman Adams is set for a medical at Southampton as they are discussing a £15 million deal for the player.

The Saints had an offer rejected for Adams in May, but with this Targett deal to Villa seemingly over the line, it now also seems that the South Coast club are about to land the man they want.

It is fair to say that it has got the Villa Park faithful on Twitter in stitches. They think they have just helped Southampton push through Adams’ deal because the Saints will use Villa’s money for Targett to pay for Blues’ key man.

Given Adams’ potential departure, and Garry Monk’s recent sacking, Birmingham will do very well to survive in the Championship next season.
