Aston Villa have suffered a huge injury blow with Jonathan Kodjia likely to be sidelined for a significant period.

Aston Villa have suffered a major injury blow with Steve Bruce suggesting that Jonathan Kodjia could be sidelined for several months as he prepares for surgery on his previously injured ankle, as reported by the Daily Mail.

With the Villans flying high in the Championship, it has surely become imperative that the club consider strengthening their options during the January transfer window to give them the very best chance of capitalising on their current position in the table.

However, there may perhaps be a concern that Bruce may look to follow up the interest in a striker that Villa were linked with back in October.

The Sun reported last month that Villa were looking at Cologne forward Jhon Cordoba after he scored a stunning goal against Arsenal at the Emirates in the Europa League earlier this season.

But despite that goal, Villa should surely stop themselves from following up the interest in Cordoba as the warning signs are there.

That goal at the Emirates has been virtually the only high point for the £13 million summer signing (via The Sun), with Cologne bottom of the Bundesliga with no wins in their opening 12 games and just two points secured up until now.

Cordoba’s goal against Arsenal is one of just two he has scored in 11 appearances in all competitions this term – with none coming in the top flight to date.

And with the 24-year-old recently sidelined for around six weeks due to injury, it would be a huge gamble for Villa to even think about making any kind of bid for the forward in January, and they should instead make sure they concentrate their energy elsewhere.
