Aston Villa fans have taken to social networking site Twitter to send positive messages to Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Barry Bannan.

Bannan featured for Wednesday in the Championship game against Aston Villa away from home at Villa Park on Saturday afternoon.

The 27-year-old Scotland international midfielder started the match and played for the entire 90 minutes, as the Owls lost 2-0.

Jonathan Kodjia put the Villans in the lead in the 34th minute, and added a second 11 minutes from full time.

Wednesday ended the game with 10 men due to the sending-off of Vincent Sasso just three minutes into the second half.

Bannan started his professional club football career at Villa and was on the books of the Villans until 2013.

Villa fans have sent positive messages to the Wednesday midfielder on Twitter.

Villa are 12th in the Championship table at the moment with 48 points from 37 matches, while Wednesday are currently sixth in the standings with 62 points from 37 games and are very much in the race to finish in the playoffs.
