The Nice goalkeeper tweeted out that ‘good things come to those who wait’, with Villa fans starting Twitter campaigns to get him to join.
There has been no indication that Dean Smith’s side actually want Benitez.
However, Villa fans have started a Twitter campaign to try and get him to Villa Park.
Villa fans have regularly been tweeting to ‘Free Benitez’ and they have now taken their appeals to the next level by messaging the goalkeeper directly.
Benitez was one of the stand out stoppers across Europe last season, so he would likely be an expensive addition for Villa.
Smith’s side are known to be looking for a new number one, as Villa seem to want an upgrade on play off hero Jed Steer.
