Aston Villa got relegated from the Premier League at the end of last season.

Aston Villa chairman Tony Xia has taken to social networking site Twitter to claim that he plans to get the club into the top six of the Premier League.

Villa manager Steve Bruce was recently quoted as saying by 90MiN that he hopes to establish the Villans as a top-six team in the Premier League in the coming years.

Club chairman Xia has made a similar claim on Twitter, with Villa fans responding to his message on the social networking site.

Xia seems to have a lofty ambition, and in the long term that is certainly achievable. After all, 10 years ago Manchester City fans were not dreaming of winning the Premier League title, were they?

Anything is possible in football, and Villa can certainly break into the top six of the Premier League in the coming years.

What the Villans need is a long-term strategy. Villa need to sign the right players in the summer transfer window and aim to finish in the Championship playoffs next season.

Once Villa get promoted to the Premier League, for the first two seasons they have to make sure that they end up above bottom four or five, and they should then take it from there.
