Dean Smith and Aston Villa now know when Villa Park will host the League Cup quarter-final clash with Liverpool.

A number of Aston Villa fans have been commenting on Twitter regarding the big announcement relating to their League Cup quarter-final tie.
Dean Smith’s charges overcame fellow West Midlands side Wolverhampton Wanderers at Villa Park last week to reach the last eight of the competition, while a young Liverpool side beat Arsenal 5-4 on penalties after a 5-5 draw to make the quarter-finals.
Some complications initially arose about the fixture date due to the Champions League holders’ involvement in the FIFA Club World Cup, which falls on the same week as the League Cup quarter-finals, leading to the prospect of the game potentially being moved to a different date.
However, the EFL has since confirmed that the League Cup tie will take place on Tuesday 17 December (7.45pm kickoff) as originally scheduled, with Liverpool set to utilise two playing squads simultaneously in the two competitions.

The general belief amongst many fans is that Jurgen Klopp will be prioritising the FIFA Club World Cup and utilise his best players in that competition, while something akin to a second string could face Villa in the League Cup.
Here is what some claret and blue fans made of the announcement on the Villa social media channel:
