Aston Villa fans are growing frustrated with loan signing Joshua Onomah.
Manager Steve Bruce elected to play the 20-year-old Tottenham Hotspur-owned midfielder in the most advanced role on Saturday as Aston Villa lost 2-0 at Derby County.
But the youngser cut an isolated, frustrated figure for most of the match and Bruce put him back in midfield to little effect shortly after the hour mark.
Onomah’s best position, according to him, is a box-to-box midfield role, but the Villa boss also played him as a second striker in the 0-0 draw with Millwall last week.
And fans of the West Midlands club are confused over Bruce’s decisions.
Onomah is a very decent talent and he proved as much during the summer by helping England Under-20s to a World Cup title, and he did so from a central midfield position.
At Tottenham, Pochettino played him on the wing, while Bruce has also played him there and up front. It makes you wonder whether the youngster needs a manager who listens to him when he claims that box-to-box is his favoured position.
