Aston Villa crashed out of the FA Cup in the Third Round on Saturday afternoon as they were hammered 3-0 by Swansea City at Villa Park.
The Swans raced into an early lead as Courtney Baker-Richardson bundled the ball home from close range, giving Graham Potter’s side a platform to build on away from home.
Nathan Dyer slotted home a second from a superb Leroy Fer pass, before Jay Fulton tucked home a third to send Swansea into the Fourth Round of the competition.
It was a really underwhelming performance display from Villa, who didn’t really turn up and offered a fairly drab display, and Scott Hogan really didn’t take his chance in the team.
Signed by Steve Bruce two years ago this month, Hogan arrived having been a real goalscorer for Brentford, but he has scored just 10 goals in 60 games in a dismal spell at Villa Park.
Many thought that Hogan would be rejuvenated when Villa appointed his former Brentford boss Dean Smith, but his record under Smith at Villa stands at 140 minutes played, no goals scored.
Hogan was given a chance from the start against Swansea, but didn’t enjoy a productive afternoon, leading fans to take to Twitter to brand him ‘pathetic’ and called for his exit having been given chance after chance.
Some even called on Villa to launch an ambitious swap deal this month, suggesting that Villa should offer Hogan back to Brentford in a swap deal for their red-hot forward Neal Maupay, who also worked under Smith at Griffin Park.
