Scott Hogan featured for two thirds of Villa’s win over Sunderland.

Aston Villa earned a comfortable 3-0 win over rock-bottom Championship side Sunderland on Tuesday night, as the Midlands club continued to keep the pressure on second-placed Cardiff City – but fans have criticised striker Scott Hogan.
The 25-year-old partnered January loan signing Lewis Grabban up front against the Black Cats but failed to add to his tally of eight goals for the season, as Grabban, James Chester and a Bryan Oviedo own goal secured the points for Villa.
Instead, Hogan was taken off after 67 minutes an replaced by Jack Grealish, as he struggled to make an impact for Steve Bruce’s side in the final third.

That has somewhat been the story of Hogan’s time at Villa since he joined the club for a huge £12million from Brentford in January 2017. Injuries have hampered his progress, with the Irishman scoring just nine goals in 44 games.
Villa fans reacted to his performance by stating that January signing Grabban is by far the better player, and have called on Bruce to drop Hogan in order to start the Bournemouth loanee by himself against Midlands rivals Wolves on Saturday.
With Grabban beginning to impress, Hogan could become third choice as Jonathan Kodjia looks to return from injury.
