Aston Villa fans have been left furious with Gary Gardner, after he liked a Birmingham City fans’ post on Instagram, suggesting that ‘the city is blue’.
Villa have loaned Gardner to Birmingham for the season, and the midfielder has left no doubt where his allegiances now lie.
Although Gardner is contracted permanently to Villa, he showed an affinity towards Birmingham on social media.
And Villa fans have suggested that there is no way back for Gardner now.
In truth Gardner’s chances of playing at Villa looked slim anyway, as he has been sent on so many loan spells recently.
Steve Bruce seemingly had reservations over utilising Gardner, but he has played fairly frequently at Birmingham.
Gardner has featured in seven league matches for the Blues so far, and has an important role to play for Garry Monk’s men.
Villa are currently four points ahead of Birmingham in the Championship standings.
