A number of Aston Villa have urged the club’s board to make a move for Gary Cahill after his latest comments.

A number of Aston Villa fans have been reacting on Twitter after Gary Cahill suggested, in comments reported by BBC Sport, that he would consider asking for a January move away from Chelsea if he remains a peripheral figure at Stamford Bridge.
The centre-back has made over 280 appearances for the Blues in all competitions since arriving from Bolton Wanderers in 2012. But opportunities under Maurizio Sarri have been much more limited.
His 21 minute stint against West Ham at the weekend was his first appearance of the season. And ahead of the game he seemingly put his Chelsea future in some doubt by suggesting that he would not be happy to sit on the bench throughout the campaign – as reported by BBC Sport.
The news has alerted plenty of Aston Villa fans on social media. Cahill – who earns £100,000-a-week, according to Spotrac – came through the ranks at Villa Park as a youngster and guaranteed his place in folklore with a stunning, acrobatic goal in a win over Birmingham City in 2006.

And it appears that there are plenty of fans who would like to see the Villans make an ambitious move for the England international if the chance presents itself in the future.
It would be a remarkable prospect for any Championship side to get a player of Cahill’s calibre in, but it would be particularly pleasing for a Villa side that look incredibly short of options at the back this season following the departure of his former teammate John Terry in the summer.

Here is what some of the Villa fans made of Cahill’s recent comments…
