Gabriel Agbonlahor wanted a move back to Aston Villa this past summer.

Aston Villa let Gabriel Agbonlahor go at the end of last season – but that didn’t stop him from wanting a return to the club this past summer.
Agbonlahor, 32, came up through the ranks with boyhood club Villa, and looked to be on a path to stardom after 49 goals in his first four full seasons in the Villa first team.
However, from the start of the 2010-11 season, Agbonlahor’s form fell of a cliff, and he only managed 36 goals in eight seasons before being released at the end of last season.
Once a forward full of blistering pace, Agbonlahor’s injury and fitness woes resulted in him being a bit-part player for Villa, and he managed just three goals in his last three seasons.
Since leaving Villa, Agbonlahor hasn’t been able to find a new club, and discussed his situation in an interview with the Press Association on Thursday, as quoted by Sports Mole.
Agbonlahor revealed that he actually wanted to re-sign for Villa, and offered to re-join Steve Bruce’s side without pay over the summer before the club’s financial situation was eased by a takeover.

With Dean Smith now in charge, there is no chance of Agbonlahor returning to Villa, and fans have been taking to Twitter to react to the comments.
Many Villa fans suggested that they wouldn’t even have wanted Agbonlahor for free, claiming it was still a bad deal on those terms, noting that whilst Agbonlahor has all these comments about loving the club and wanting to play for free, he had no issues taking money from the club when he was struggling for fitness and barely played, noting that actions speak louder than words.
