Aston Villa face bitter rivals Birmingham after the international break.

Aston Villa have suffered a double injury blow on Thursday after both Neil Taylor and John McGinn pulled out of their international squads with problems – and Villa fans are concerned ahead of next weekend’s clash against Birmingham City.

Taylor, 29, was forced off at half-time in Villa’s last match – a 3-0 away win against Derby County – but he has failed to recover in time for Wales’ crucial UEFA Nations League clash against Denmark on Friday.

Meanwhile, summer signing McGinn has also been withdrawn from the Scotland side who face must-win matches against Albania and Israel in the Nations League – despite playing all 90 minutes against Derby.

Villa play host to Garry Monk’s Birmingham in nine days and fans will be desperate to have their best side on show in order to take home the bragging rights. Both Taylor and McGinn have been mainstays since Dean Smith arrived as boss.

Though it remains to be seen how severe the injuries are, or if indeed there are actual injuries or just concerns over the players fitness, fans are understandably concerned.

Villa supporters took to Twitter in reaction to the double blow, with the next Championship fixture fresh in their minds. Some sections of Villa Park, though, reckon the duo have chosen to remain fit for the Blues clash, rather than having an injury.
