Aston Villa fans cannot believe that Birmingham City have made Craig Gardner a player coach.

Birmingham parted company with Garry Monk earlier this week, and Gardner has quickly been promoted to part of the Blues’ new management team.

The midfielder will now take on a coaching role alongside his playing duties at St. Andrews and Villa fans were left in hysterics by their rival’s decision.

Gardner started his career at Villa, before making a move to Birmingham in 2010.

He has never coached before, and Birmingham’s new management team do look very inexperienced.

Gardner is still only 32, so should still have years left of playing before he can fully focus on a coaching role.

The departure of Monk at Birmingham has caused great uncertainty heading into the new campaign, but things look far more stable at Villa.

Dean Smith’s side have worked efficiently since promotion to the Premier League and made some impressive moves in the transfer market.
