Birmingham City defender Harlee Dean has been very complimentary towards Dean Smith’s Aston Villa side for earning promotion.

Aston Villa fans have jokingly reacted to Birmingham City defender Harlee Dean’s comments about them.

Villa earned promotion from the Championship last season, and they have been lauded from numerous pundits and players.

However, once source they may not have expected to receive praise from was Dean.

Yet the Birmingham defender was very complimentary towards Villa in the Daily Mirror.

“Let’s be honest, you can’t take anything away from Villa,” Dean said.

“They won 10 games in a row, which is different level stuff in this league. They were probably the strongest team in the play-offs as well and one of the better teams we have played this year.”

The comments have surprised Villa fans, who have joked that he seems to be angling towards a move to Villa Park.

Villa are now forming their squad for next season, with Dean Smith’s side thought to have funds to spend.

The claret and blues have actually done business with Birmingham this summer, with Jota set to arrive from their Midlands rivals, according to the Birmingham Mail.
