The Iceland midfielder, 30, has just undergone surgery for an apparent groin injury and promises to “be back stronger than ever”.

Birkir Bjarnason has endured a somewhat frustrating time at Aston Villa since joining from FC Basel in January 2017.
The Iceland international’s first 12 months at Villa Park were largely forgettable and he even considered leaving the club at one stage.
However, Bjarnason managed to force his way into first-team contention in 2018, helping Villa seal a playoff place.
Although he lost his place in the starting XI late on in the campaign, he certainly did enough to warrant a continued role in the Villa camp.

Unfortunately for Bjarnason, another stumbling block has emerged in the form of injury as he was forced off in the 1-0 loss to Queens Park Rangers in late October.
On Thursday, Villa confirmed that Bjarnason – who didn’t feature for Iceland during the international break – is suffering from a groin problem, and did not provide an estimated return date.
Later on in the day, the 30-year-old took to Instagram to announce that he had undergone successful surgery and will “be back stronger than ever”.
Following the update, a number of Aston Villa fans took to Twitter to wish Bjarnason a speedy recovery:
Bjarnason has made 46 appearances for Villa, scoring six goals and registering three assists.
