Aston Villa loanee Andre Green bagged the only goal as Portsmouth reached the third round of the FA Cup.

A number of Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to praise Andre Green after he scored the goal that ensured that Portsmouth would be in the hat for the third round of the FA Cup at the weekend.

Green has endured a tricky start to his loan spell at Fratton Park. There have been glimpses of his quality and enormous potential, but he has not managed to hold down a place in Kenny Jackett’s side.

He was initially picked for the substitutes’ bench for the second round tie with League One rivals Rochdale, but was brought on for the latter stages as the game remained goalless.

And while he needed a big slice of luck, he was the reason that Portsmouth find themselves in the next round – where they could be drawn against Villa – as his deflected effort found the top corner in the 90th minute.

He has now scored two goals in his last two appearances, so the forward will be hoping that he can kick on and push for a starting spot before proving a point to the Villans ahead of his return in the summer.

And following the game, Green took to Twitter to express his delight at helping Pompey to the win, while several Aston Villa fans congratulated the forward on the impact that he made at Spotland.
