Aston Villa took on Millwall on Saturday afternoon in the first game of the post-Steve Bruce era – but it was more of the same as they lost 2-1.

Villa sacked Bruce on Wednesday, less than 24 hours after a 3-3 home draw with Preston North End, and Kevin MacDonald was thrust in as caretaker once again.

A trip to The New Den faced MacDonald and co, and it all started so well as Tammy Abraham’s acrobatic finish put Villa into a 1-0 lead on just seven minutes.

However, that’s about as good as it got for Villa, as Shane Ferguson hammered home the equaliser with the aid of a deflection just 20 minutes later.

Villa attempted to get a foothold in the game but ultimately lost when Tom Elliott hit the winner shortly after half time, with Villa unable to haul themselves back into the game.

Villa head into the international break expecting a managerial appointment, and it’s now just one win in the last 10 Championship games after a torrid run of form.

MacDonald switched up some of the side, and decided to play right back Alan Hutton centrally due to James Chester’s suspension having been sent off against Preston.

However, fans were far from impressed with the Scot, suggesting he should be dropped and was ‘dreadful’ at centre back, believing he isn’t positionally good enough to play in the heart of defence.
