Alan Hutton was charged with marking Sergi Canos as Aston Villa travelled to Brentford’s Griffin Park on Boxing Day.. .it didn’t go well.

It’s fair to say Alan Hutton might have scrubbed his name off Aston Villa supporters’ Christmas card list with a dreadful performance against Brentford on Boxing Day.
The experienced Scot looked like he’d enjoyed a few too many Ferrero Rochers as Bees winger Sergi Canos tore him apart at Griffin Park. The Spaniard’s clever scheming and unpredictability left Hutton with twisted and the Villa fans praying for him to be taken back out of the side.

After all, it’s not as if Villa are short of right-backs with Ahmed Elmohamady, Ritchie De Laet and promising youngster James Bree all providing back-up.
But, for one reason or another, Hutton seems to remain one of Steve Bruce’s go-to men – and this is not the first time of late that the Aston Villa fans have disagreed with their manager’s selection policy.

A 2-1 defeat that was all their own making leaves the Midland giants mired in a run of five games without a win – meaning they have slipped out of the play-off places and are now just four points ahead of 12th place Brentford.
But despite Hutton’s awful display, it would be no surprise to see him in the starting XI once again when Villa travel to Middlesbrough on Saturday.
