It hasn’t been a good last six days for Aston Villa’s Ahmed Elmohamady.

It’s been a rotten Christmas period for Aston Villa’s Ahmed Elmohamady as far as football goes.
Last week, the Aston Villa defender accidentally registered an assist for Leeds’ last-minute winner in the hosts’ 3-2 defeat at Villa Park.
Fast forward six days and the Egypt international is being roasted by Villans’ fans once more.
Elmohamady, who joined the West Midlands side for £1 million in 2017 [The Sun], scored an own goal in this afternoon’s 1-1 draw away to Preston North End.
Here’s how Aston Villa fans reacted to the blooper.
Considering January is only around the corner, and Elmohamady wasn’t a Dean Smith signing, this is potentially ominous for the former Hull and Sunderland star.
Smith, who replaced Steve Bruce at Aston Villa earlier this season, might well either look to move him on or sign an upgrade when the window opens.
On his day he is an excellent player to be fair, but at the moment he is costing Aston Villa valuable goals – and points – and therefore Smith has a big decision to make next month.
