Six months; that’s all it’s taken for Veretout to go from Villa flop to Juve target.

There’s a reason the January transfer window is unequivocally referred to as ‘Silly Season’; a month where Julian Faubert, the West Ham bench warmer, can be considered Real Madrid level, where Afonso Alves arrived at the Riverside with a Samba-dancing conga in tow.

And while Jordan Veretout may be a talented midfielder, its oh so very January to see him linked with Serie A champions Juventus just six months after being relegated in the most pitiful fashion with Aston Villa.

Then again, this is a player who, just three years ago, dominated a midfield triumvirate of Paul Pogba and Geoffrey Kondogbia, driving France to the Under-20 World Cup title. Even a disastrous season at Villa Park does not consign such potential to the rubbish bin.

And, according to Calciomercato, Veretout could be set for the most remarkable career twist; relegated Aston Villa to Serie A champions within six months, via a loan spell with St Etienne in his homeland.

In fact, such is the composure and the intelligence of Veretout’s passing ability, Juve appear to have handpicked him as their next midfield anchor ahead of Sevilla’s in-form enforcer Steven N’Zonzi, Calciomercato add.

January; don’t you just love it? The Villa fans certainly do. After all, they could have a tidy profit coming their way.

Safe to say we wont see Veretout anytime soon. Can’t see Juve wanting him or having option to get him now with his current deal #avfc https://t.co/jEQ36fcHMq
