Aston Villa were beaten 3-0 by Celtic’s development squad yesterday.

Aston Villa fans have criticised Tommy Elphick’s performance for their development side against Celtic yesterday.

Villa’s under-23’s were beaten 3-0 by Celtic at Villa Park last night, despite naming an experienced side for the match.

The likes of Gabriel Agbonlahor, Aly Cissokho, Aaron Tshibola and Elphick were all involved for Villa, but they could not stop Villa from falling to a heavy defeat.

Celtic striker Luke Donnelly scored a brace, and Jack Aitchison also found the back of the net.

Elphick’s showing for Villa has been widely criticised, with the former Bournemouth man’s start at Villa Park still not going according to plan.

Elphick was expected to strengthen Villa’s defence when he was brought to the Midlands club during the summer transfer window.

However, the centre-back appears to have already fallen out of favour, and it would be a surprise if he broke into Steve Bruce’s starting line-up any time soon.

Villa’s first-team are next in action after the international break, when they take on Brighton & Hove Albion.
