Aston Villa are reportedly looking to sign Tom Heaton during the January transfer window.

A number of Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to comment on the reports emerging from The Sun on Sunday (25/11; page 60) at the weekend which suggested that the Villans are eyeing a January move for Tom Heaton.

Dean Smith has a number of goalkeepers at the club. However, it seems fair to suggest that they have not had the best luck when it comes to replacing Sam Johnstone.

In fairness to Orjan Nyland, he has definitely improved in recent weeks and his performances hint that he could prove to be a very good signing at Villa Park. Meanwhile, Jed Steer is impressing out on loan.

Nevertheless, Smith appears to be keen to bring his own stopper to the club when the January window opens in a few weeks. The Sun on Sunday reports that Heaton is on his radar.

Interestingly, the reports have been met by a mixed reaction. Heaton – who earns £35,000-a-week, according to Spotrac – is clearly a fantastic stopper. He has been unlucky at Burnley that Nick Pope took his chance so well last season and Joe Hart has impressed since arriving in the summer.

Some feel that he would be the ideal signing for Villa in January. However, some have suggested that they would like to see Nyland given more time to impress as he continues to grow.
