Aston Villa picked up their first win of the season on Saturday afternoon as they hammered Rotherham United 3-0 at Villa Park.
After a 1-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday last weekend and a 3-1 embarrassment at the hands of Luton Town in the EFL Cup, Villa needed to get their season kickstarted – and that’s just what happened on Saturday.

Striker Rudy Gestede headed Villa in front when he headed home Aly Cissokho’s cross, and he made it 2-0 with his second of the game as he chipped Lee Camp from Ross McCormack’s through ball.
Homegrown ace Jack Grealish added gloss to the win by dancing through the Rotherham defender and sliding into the empty net from a tight angle.

The win was a vital boost for manager Roberto Di Matteo, and the Italian will have been particularly pleased with the performance of summer signing Aaron Tshibola.
Tshibola, 21, joined Villa from Reading back in July and having played just 20 minutes against Sheffield Wednesday last weekend, the midfielder made his first league start for Villa against Rotherham.

Whilst young and raw, Tshibola clearly impressed as Villa fans took to Twitter in order to rave about his display, even joking that his performance was better than Mo Farah’s gold medal win at the Rio Olympic Games.
Others stated that Tshibola was ‘crucial’ and ‘absolutely awesome’, with fans eager to see Tshibola in action with alleged transfer target Mile Jedinak in the middle of the park.
With huge potential and a strong performance already, Tshibola is making strides at Villa Park – and here are some of the reactions from Aston Villa fans on Twitter after his display against Rotherham…
