Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce has told the club’s official website that he wants Micah Richards back on the pitch after a lengthy injury battle.

Richards, 28, joined Villa from Manchester City in the summer of 2015, but couldn’t stop Villa from suffering relegation to the Championship last season.

A player who underperformed last season and is one of the club’s biggest earners, Richards hasn’t made himself many fans during his time at Villa Park, and has been virtually invisible this season.

The former England international has made just three appearances for Villa this season, and his last game came in Bruce’s first match as Villa boss against Wolves way back in October.

A knee injury has plagued Richards this season, adding to Villa’s issues at right back. Summer Ritchie de Laet is out for the season having suffered a major knee injury, whilst January addition James Bree also has a knee injury.

Now, Bruce has admitted that he wants to get Richards back into the team whenever possible, as he feels he has the right mentality to play for a big club like Villa.

However, fans are a little split on Richards. Many took to Twitter to suggest that Richards deserves another chance to shine, and he would be a good option for the club as they struggle in the Championship.

Others think that seeing Richards as some sort of saviour is a huge mistake from Bruce, and they don’t want him involved in the first team having struggled during the relegation campaign last season.
