Scott Hogan suggested that he did not enjoy his time at Aston Villa having left the club on loan during the summer.

A number of Aston Villa fans have slammed Scott Hogan on Twitter after the striker suggested, in comments reported by Stoke-on-Trent Live, that he did not enjoy one bit of his time at Villa Park.

Hogan left the Villans on loan during the summer after a tough spell. Stoke-on-Trent Live reports that he cost the club £9 million when he arrived from Brentford, but he scored just seven goals in 56 league appearances for Villa.

His stay with Stoke started a lot better however, with two goals coming in the draw with Derby County at the weekend. And he has since opened up on the difficulty that he endured after joining Villa during the 2017 January transfer window.

“It’s taught me a lot. It was a difficult time in my career and I didn’t enjoy one bit of it,” he said, as reported by Stoke-on-Trent Live. “My confidence got knocked. I had a couple of injuries. It wasn’t going well. I just didn’t fit in.

“I tried over the two years I was there. I tried everything. Sometimes you’ve got to hold your hands up and I needed a fresh start. Unsurprisingly, a number of Villa supporters have not had much sympathy for Hogan, with many expressing their frustration about how poorly he did having arrived for a significant transfer fee for a Championship side.”

It appears that some of the fans have found the comments disrespectful given that he would have been on a very good contract in comparison with what he was likely earning at Griffin Park.

It would be a big surprise if there was any way back for the striker in the future. Even if Dean Smith cannot keep the club in the Premier League this term, Hogan appears to have almost completely burned his bridges with the Villans and will probably be looking for his loan at Stoke to lead to a permanent move to the bet365 Stadium or another switch elsewhere.
