The goalkeeper had an impressive debut for his new team.
Aston Villa went out of the FA Cup this evening, losing 2-0 at White Hart Lane to Premier League high-flyers Tottenham Hotspur.
It was a result that Spurs eventually deserved after an ultra-defensive display from the Championship side.
Aston Villa fans will be disappointed perhaps that they did not go a little more adventurous in the game but Spurs always looked too strong for them on the day.

Aston Villa’s Sam Johnstone
The main positive however would have to be the performance of debutant Sam Johnstone.
The goalkeeper was signed on loan from Manchester United this week and immediately went into the Villa first-team against Spurs.
Villa have struggled to find a top goalkeeper for some time now, and the summer recruit Pierluigi Gollini has not looked up to scratch.

He put in an assured display which included a couple of impressive saves and ensured Aston Villa were not run over by Spurs late in the game.
Aston Villa fans were rightly impressed with his performance on Twitter and will no doubt hope to see him continue such form in the first-team going forward…
