Aston Villa fans have provided mixed reactions to reports that midfielder Birkir Bjarnason rejected a transfer away from the club in January.

The Birmingham Mail claim that the 2018 Steve Bruce signing opted against a move because he wants to fight for his place in the team.

In recent months, Bjarnason has seen his game time limited under Dean Smith, with injuries and a struggle to get back into the team playing its part.

Villa supporters didn’t know what to make of his decision, with one fan stating that it is good to see players that want to be at the club, while another felt it was a ‘shame’ that he stayed.

Another Villa fan dubbed the Iceland international as ‘proven on the world stage’ with the experienced midfielder a regular for his national side.

Nonetheless, given the form of Glenn Whelan, Conor Hourihane, Jack Grealish and John McGinn, it will be pretty hard for the ‘Ice Man’ to break his way into the team.

Here is a selection of Villa fans on Twitter reacting to the Bjarnason rumours:

On Saturday, Villa host Blackburn Rovers on home soil, with the Smith’s side looking to secure their fifth win on the bounce.

At this moment in time, they are sitting in the final play-off spot and if they continue to perform in the manner in which they have done in recent weeks then a top-six finish is definitely on the cards.
