Aston Villa could reportedly switch their attention towards Ryan Woods should they fail in their pursuit of Kalvin Phillips.

A number of Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to comment on reports from the Daily Mirror suggesting that Dean Smith wants Ryan Woods should the Villans fail to land Kalvin Phillips this summer.
Phillips has been linked with a switch to Villa Park for much of the window after an outstanding campaign in the Championship in which he shone in the holding role in Leeds’ midfield.
The Daily Mirror reports that Villa are prepared to offer Phillips a £60,000-a-week contract as they continue their preparations for their return to the Premier League, but the Whites want £30 million for the 23-year-old.
And it appears that they are considering alternative targets, with the Mirror reporting that Smith is also interested in Woods, who Brentford sold to Stoke for £6.5 million when the Villa boss was in charge at Griffin Park.

It has been a difficult time for Woods with the Potters, and he seemed to fall almost completely out of favour following Nathan Jones’ appointment during the campaign. And that is perhaps why plenty of Villa supporters are not interested in seeing Woods arrive this summer.
Some believe that the classy midfielder could be a good signing – especially as he was superb at Brentford while working with Smith – but most appear to be unconvinced that he would be able to raise his game for the highest level, and hope that Phillips is the man that Villa manage to get.

Here is how some of the fans reacted to the reports…
