Aston Villa fans have provided a mixed reaction on Twitter to promotion rivals Bristol City beating West Brom 3-2 on Tuesday night.

Lee Johnson’s side moved above Villa and into fifth in the Championship table as Dean Smith’s side have the chance to leapfrog them if they beat Rotherham on Wednesday.

It was a blistering start from the Robins, who scored three goals inside 20 minutes before the Baggies netted two goals in the second half to increase the nerves across the stadium.

Josh Brownhill opened the scoring after two minutes before former Villa man Andi Weimann doubled his side’s lead 14 minutes later as Jack Hunt added the third.

Regardless of what Villa do against Rotherham, they will remain in the top-six ahead of the weekend where they will take on Bristol City on home soil.

It could be argued that the winner of that contest will go on to all but confirm their place in the top-six because it would be a huge result for whoever wins.

Here is a selection of Villa fans reacting to Bristol City’s win:

Dean Smith’s side, who beat Sheffield Wednesday 3-1 over the weekend, have won six games on the bounce.

At the end of February, Villa’s promotion hopes looked all but over, however, a serious run of form has now changed the tide for the Midlands outfit.
