After Aston Villa’s disastrous season in 2015-16 plenty of Villa fans wanted to see heads roll at the club.
One such name was Paddy Riley.
The Director of Scouting and Recruitment has been disliked by fans at Villa Park for a long time now and, according to the Birmingham Mail, he has been sacked.
Steve Round
The club’s new technical director Steve Round’s first action at the club since his appointment by new chairman Tony Xia was to give Riley his marching orders.
The Mail claim that Riley had a fractious relationship with Paul Lambert and Tim Sherwood regarding recruitment at the club whilst his relationship with Remi Garde was particularly volatile.
They also suggest that current manager Roberto Di Matteo let him nowhere near his transfer plans this summer.
After the news was reported Xia sent out this tweet, also aimed at outcast striker Gabby Agbonlahor:
He was not the only Villa fan tweeting on the matter.
There is no doubt that the overwhelming majority of Villa fans were ecstatic to see Riley leave the club finally after years of unpopular employment.
