Defender has finally been released by Aston Villa.
Aston Villa have confirmed that defender Micah Richards has finally been released by the club.
Richards was one of eight players let go after the club won promotion last week.
Many had forgotten Richards was even at the club.
He signed for Villa in 2015 on a free transfer from Manchester City. A year later they were relegated.
His high wages made it difficult for Villa to shift him, and a loan move to Fiorentina did not go any further.
He has not played at all over the past two seasons, while his wages have been draining Villa’s resources.
Finally getting him off their wage bill is a big step forward for Villa, and fans have predictably reacted positively.
