Former Aston Villa boss Martin O’Neill has taken the helm at Championship rivals, Nottingham Forest.
Aston Villa supporters have provided a mixed reaction on Twitter to Martin O’Neill being appointed the new manager of Nottingham Forest.
Forest confirmed on their official website on Tuesday morning that former Republic of Ireland manager, O’Neill has replaced the recently departed Aitor Karanka in the dugout.
O’Neill managed Villa during the mid to late noughties where he helped the club to three successive top-six finishes in the Premier League before his sudden departure in 2010.
Since those days, Villa have fallen at an alarming rate, appointing eight permanent managers and getting relegated to the second tier of English football for the first time in nearly three decades in 2016.
Many Villa supporters blame O’Neill for the ‘start’ of the club’s ‘demise’ because of how much he spent, while others look at the success he had and where they are now.
As a result of that, some Villa fans on Twitter felt that Forest haven’t made the right choice in appointing O’Neill as others backed him to get Forest promoted.
Forest are currently above Villa in the Championship table with the duo recording a remarkable 5-5 when they last met in November – the reverse fixture takes place in March at the City Ground.
