Aston Villa boss Dean Smith is said to be keen to sign the Brentford defender in January.

Yoann Barbet of Brentford celebrates after the Sky Bet Championship match between Brentford and Wigan on September 15, 2018 in Brentford, England.

Aston Villa fans appear to be keen on seeing Yoann Barbet signed from Brentford and Tommy Elphick recalled.

The Express and Star claim that Villa are considering buying Barbet in January, while Elphick’s loan at Hull City could be cut short.

Dean Smith wants to improve Villa’s defence, and feels that the pair could be just what the claret and blues need.

And Villa supporters are backing their manager’s reported plan, as they want them both available to be picked by Smith over the second half of the season.

Villa have struggled defensively throughout the campaign, and Smith’s options at the back are currently very short.

Smith was forced to pick James Bree at centre-back yesterday, as Villa’s makeshift defence was exposed against Leeds United.

The Villans were beaten 3-2 by Leeds in a defeat which really dented their promotion chances.

Villa are currently in 11th place in the Championship table, and are now playing catch up with the play off chasing pack.
