Aston Villa fans have had a mixed reaction over links with Stoke City right-back Moritz Bauer.
Villa are known to be looking to add at least one more defender before the end of the January transfer window.
And while some Villa fans appear to be keen on the idea of Bauer joining, others feel he would not be a worthwhile signing.
Villa do already have Alan Hutton and James Bree who can play at right-back.
However, Smith has suggested that the claret and blues have too many attackers in their squad and not enough defenders.
Villa have now been linked with a host of defensive targets, but have only brought in two players so far this January, with Lovre Kalinic and Kortney Hause both signing at Villa Park.
