Aston Villa lost 1-0 at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday evening.

Aston Villa lost for the second Championship game in a row on Saturday evening as they were beaten 1-0 away at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Villa lost 2-0 away at Spurs in the FA Cup last weekend, and had picked up just one point in their previous two Championship games having drawn with Leeds United and lost at Cardiff City.

Fans were hoping to see Villa conjure up a victory after a disappointing couple of results, but those supporters were left frustrated again after another poor performance.

Joe Mason’s first-half goal proved to be the winner for Wolves, as he turned the ball home from close range after Sam Johnstone had parried Nouha Dicko’s cross.

Villa couldn’t muster even one shot on target but did go close when Ross McCormack contrived to head over the crossbar from just six yards out from a superb Jordan Amavi cross.

Many Villa players struggled at Molineux, and whilst Amavi put in that outstanding ball for McCormack’s chance, the Frenchman was singled out for criticism after the final whistle.

Villa fans took to Twitter to blast Amavi’s display, suggesting that’s going backwards as a player – particularly since owner Tony Xia claimed he rejected a £25million bid for the 22-year-old left back.

Some believe that Amavi should be playing further forward as he isn’t good enough defensively to play as a left back, with some suggesting that his display against Wolves was his worst of the season.
